I am Bruckner Chase, and my life as an athlete puts me in some the world’s most challenging ocean and beach conditions in the world. For any athlete who trains or races in the ocean the secret to maximum performance and safety is understanding the dynamic open water conditions created by waves and weather. In the Ocean Today Wave Safe series we have visited coastlines throughout the country to help you be as safe and fast as possible.

Fast Facts

When you visit the beach you need to know about the hazards you may face. But staying aware and alert is what will keep you safe in the dynamic conditions on every beach. To stay safe you need to stay aware of the weather, the ocean, and what is going on around you. Storms far out at sea can create dangerous waves and currents at the beach, even on a sunny day! Even small waves can hit you with the force of a car! Getting knocked down or pinned to the sand can cause serious injury. Always remember: if you want to stay safe at the beach, respect the power of the ocean!
