Your National Marine Sanctuaries cover some of the most amazing ocean locations in the world and protect our country’s greatest natural and cultural marine resources. We want you to Get Into Your Sanctuaries this summer, and the Ocean Today Wave Safe series will help you stay safe to enjoy many more visits to the places we love.

When you visit the beach you need to know about the hazards you may face. But staying aware and alert is what will keep you safe in the dynamic conditions on every beach. To stay safe you need to stay aware of the weather, the ocean, and what is going on around you. Storms far out at sea can create dangerous waves and currents at the beach, even on a sunny day! Even small waves can hit you with the force of a car! Getting knocked down or pinned to the sand can cause serious injury. Always remember: if you want to stay safe at the beach, respect the power of the ocean!
